ALSWA WELCOMES NEW CEO WAYNE NANNUP

The Aboriginal Legal Service of WA Ltd (ALSWA) welcomes onboard Wayne Nannup, who takes over the reign from retiring CEO Dennis Eggington.

With family connections to Western Australia’s South West, Pilbara, Goldfields, Mid-West and Kimberley regions, Wayne brings a wealth of experience to the role and a strong commitment to the complex issues facing First Nations Peoples within the justice system.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University in 2009 and admitted to practice law in 2010, Wayne is excited about his new role and the opportunity to return to the organisation where he first started his legal career.

“It’s great to be back at ALSWA and I’m feeling really good and looking forward to our work going forward.  ALSWA plays a pivotal role within the justice system in this State and as key stakeholders, we will continue to strive for justice and meet the needs of our community members” said Mr. Nannup.

ALSWA has expanded from just a few staff in the early seventies, to now employ over 170 people in eleven offices spanning from Albany in the south west to Kununurra in the north.  For the past three decades, this growth and ALSWA’s integral role in the justice system, has been overseen by outgoing CEO Dennis Eggington who has held the position since 1996.

“I worked with Dennis during my former time with ALSWA so it’s an honour to take on the role and follow in his footsteps after all that he has contributed over so many years”.

The former CEO of the Aboriginal Housing Recovery Centre Limited and the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council, Wayne Nannup is also a Non-Executive Director of Relationships Australia (WA) and IronMerge and the former Chair of Institute of Indigenous Wellbeing and Sport WA.

“ALSWA is such a historical organisation with a long and strong history and I’m excited about the journey ahead.  I’m also grateful to our Elders, past and present who continue to guide and inspire us.  As the newly appointed CEO of the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA Ltd, I am extremely proud to embark upon the next stage in my career, working with and for our people”.
