ALSWA Media Officer receives National Award

10th March 2011

The Aboriginal Legal Service of WA (ALSWA) congratulates Jodi Hoffmann, ALSWA’s Media Officer who has been named the 2010 “Trevor Christian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (ATSILS) Employee of the Year”. The announcement was made during a recent ATSILS meeting in Melbourne attended by ATSILS management and staff from throughout the country and representatives from the Attorney-General’s Department in Canberra.

ALSWA CEO Mr. Dennis Eggington presented the Award to Ms. Hoffmann acknowledging her commitment to Community and commending her professionalism and contributions to ALSWA in fulfilling the diverse role of ALSWA’s Media Officer for the past five years.

A Nunga woman from Adelaide, Ms. Hoffmann is the proud mother of two who has lived in Perth for over 20 years. Her role with ALSWA includes receiving incoming media enquiries, producing ALSWA’s newsletters and annual reports and presenting ‘Law Matters’, ALSWA’s fortnightly radio program on 6NME Noongar Radio (100.9 FM).

Speaking after the announcement, she said she felt “extremely surprised, humbled and honoured” to receive the Award. “The work undertaken by ATSILS throughout the country is so important and I feel very fortunate to be part of such a dynamic team at ALSWA who are all working tirelessly within the area of social justice. This Award really acknowledges the collaborative achievements of our organisation in our media and public relations work and I am grateful to ALSWA’s Senior Management for their ongoing support and the confidence and trust placed in me fulfilling this role”.

In accepting the Award, Ms. Hoffmann thanked ALSWA, the National ATSILS and the Attorney General’s Department for being selected as the 2010 recipient of the ATSILS Award, which consists of an engraved trophy, Certificate of Achievement and sponsorship for Ms. Hoffmann to undertake professional development. The Award was initiated by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department in 2008 to recognise the outstanding contribution made by an individual ATSILS staff member.

Prior to commencing with ALSWA in January 2006, Ms. Hoffmann, who holds a Graduate Diploma in Journalism, worked as a broadcaster/producer (WA Aboriginal Media Association), Koori Mail WA Correspondent and broadcaster/producer (720 ABC Perth).
